Dell PowerEdge R410 can not upgrade to HDD 6TB?
Dear Support team and all,
I have the Dell PowerEdge R410, with 4 slots mounted hard drive, I use Windows Server 2008:
+ Slot 1 and 2 running RAID 500GB disk slot.
+ Slot 3 (WD) 2TB data pregnant
+ Slot 4 just bought their 6TB hard drive, attach the new start reformatting, and follow the instructions of the WD is to Convert to GPT, the fully realized 6TB hard drive. I had finished converting and reformatting always and so good, it receives about 6TB.
Then copy your data onto this 6TB.
The next day, the folder on this 6TB drive is reported to be corrupt folder. Then in Disk Management manager, it started reformatting.
Restart your machine unconnected, 6TB drive is not always realized, it began to reformat reformat it and its there just 2TB.
Has anyone ever said to help me!

To start off can you confirm the controller installed in the server? It appears as if it is a SAS 6/IR. If this is the case the issue you are running into is that the controller doesn't support drives in excess of 2TB.
Let me know and we can go from there.

Hi Chris H,
Yes, we use Raid card SAS 6/iR controller for Dell PowerEdge R410 now. How about replace other Raid card controller for can use it (it mean support drives in excess of 6TB)

You should use the PERC H700 controller, but the drives must be 512e, not 4k.

Yap, I can replace PERC H700 controller, so I don't understand you said "512e, not 4k"? Please explain to me. thanks!

According to Dell, the H700 does not support 4K drives (drives with 4096-byte sectors). Traditional HDD's use 512-byte sectors, and for compatibility, many large drives "emulate" 512-byte sectors (512e). Only 512e will work on an H700. Pure 4K drives will not.
