Does the PERC H700/H800 support SATA 6gb drives?
I see where the PERC H700/H800 supports SAS 3.0 which is 6.0gb/sec for Serial Attached SCSI, but curious if that supports full speed on the newer SATA 3 6.0gb/sec drives.
Thanks!

The answer can be found in this document on page 6 http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pvaul/en/dell-perc-h700-h800-transition-guide.pdf
The PERC H700 which is for internal server drives will support both SAS and SATA.
The PERC H800 which is for controlling the PowerVault MD1200 and MD1220 exterenal enclosures will only support SAS

I read that as well but it doesn't specifically call out that it supports SATA 6GB. It does specifically call out SAS 3GB, SAS 6.0 and SATA 3.0. No mention of SATA 6.0 anywhere. The SATA 6.0 is pretty new and I would *think* that because it supports 6.0 SAS it would support SATA 6.0....but it's not specifically called out. I'm sure someone has an H700 with a SATA 6.0 drive in there and can say yes or no.

I ordered a R710 server from dell outlet with 6gb/sec HD inside. But it only come with PERC 6/i card. Can I upgrade to H700? If yes, can it fit into the current PERC 6/i slot and using current SAS cable connecting to the current HD? Also, how much does it cost?
Thanks

The H700 controller will fit on the same slot than the PERC 6 but, you will need new cables. PERC 6 has SAS connectors and PERC H700 has miniSAS.
