Drive ready state status and can't change
I have a PE2900 Raid5 Perc6/I SCSI/SAS harddrives are ST3450856SS recently had the amber light on drive 6 swapped out the harddrive with a new one. Thought all was good, but still booting and seeing a degraded warning. Checked and saw the HD 5 was in ready state. I did swap 5 with 6 and now 6 is ready state. So does that mean the drive with Ready State status is bad? The SMART status notes No Error but the Write Cache is N/A vs Disk Default (probably due that it is not online??). This is in my Disk Group1, VD count is 2 and the PD count is 7 but should be 8.

Hello.
Enter RAID controller BIOS using Ctr+R on bootup. View PDs and go to or highlight the given HD 5 and hit F2 for options. Assign as hot spare, save and exit.

Also if I install the OMSA we are using Win2008 Stnd 64bit SP2 when reviewing OMSA there are many choices for that TAG number - do you recommend a version. Or is this one OK: Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node (Windows - 32 bit),v7.4

Hello.
Using OMSA web interface if installed, assign the HD 5 in the "READY" state as a hot spare by use of Available Tasks drop list. This way HD 5 will be able to rebuild and join the array. The PD count is of the order 0, 1, 2, 3,..........and so on (starting from "0"). The PD count of 7 is correct based on this numbering.

Thanks Robert. So there is not away to do that in the Raid controller at bootup? I don't have OMSA web interface installed.

Hello.
Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node, OMSA (Windows - 32 bit) is fine. v 8.1 is the latest release.
