H700 Maximum Disk / LUN Size
I'm looking to construct the largest possible internal RAID6 on an R510 with an H700 1GB.
Is there an established maximum size for a HDD connected to an H700? I know the 4TB disks are supported, but what about 6TB or 8TB?
Also, is there a maximum LUN size? The H700 manual mentions nothing about LUN sizes. I believe the H710 has a max of 64TB.
The other option would be to use the H800 and add external storage. Any known maximums there other than 192 drives?

Just FYI I was able to get the WD 8TB Red (White Label) drives working in my H700 R510. The model number is WDC WD80EMAZ.

Has anyone been able to get the Seagate ST8000NM0075 8TB drives working I have a Dell R515 I want to repurpose for storage with 8 8Tb drives in RAID 10 I believe.
Will get 32 TB or if I go RAID 6 48TB
I prefer the Seagate since they are a SAS drive or the

Anyone get 12s working yet? I am tempted to get HGSTs helium drives. The 10tb Sas drives or maybe even the 12tb sata drives. (Dell R710 H700 Raid card.)

I updated all my drivers about a month or so ago. However, I did just install a 12tb HGST helium SAS drive that works just fine. No issues whatsoever. (Obviously lost about a TB but thats typical.) (Dell R710, Eventually going to have 6 rows of 12TBS. lol. Can Cyber Monday already be here please?)

Hi all,
Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I'm looking to purchase an R710 + H700 and would like to run VMWare EXSi with 8-12TB HGST 4Kn drives.
The H700 doesn't officially support 4Kn drives (only the gen 13 controllers H730 onwards do) but then it seems from this thread that a couple of people have had success with 4Kn drives whilst others have used 512e drives.
I don't think ESXi v6.5 supports 512e / 4Kn but v6.7 does however the X56xx XEON has been depricated in this release :( so I'm wondering what my options are for building a working virtual server environment without taking the risk of shelling out money on drives which I then find I can't use (and I'd rather avoid buying old 512n drives if possible).
Thanks,
Jon

Your setup is the same as mine and I did everything the posts said. Can't get it to see nothing over 931gb. These are Seagate 8TB's however. On a R410 with an H700. BIOS and Firmware up to date. I tried everything!! I'm beginning to think this is impossible. Either that, its something simple i'm missing.
Anybody?
I know its an old thread, but saw a reply not long ago.

How did you update the firmware through the OS or from System Services? Everything must be updated, here is the most complete video on step by step process online...however it is long, so you will have to fast forward and rewind, I have used it many times. https://youtu.be/y0q-lywAX2E

This is not true! I purchased a 12TB HGST SAS drive and installed it on my Dell R710 with H700 with the latest firmware, still detected as 1.3TB drive!

@Dark-Yak fortunate for you. I am at the same firmware level and no luck. And I am only running 8 2TB (ST2000DM008) drives in my T610...well, trying to anyway. Perhaps it is the server but the Dell specs indicate 8 3TB is the max so I should be well within parameters to properly function.

As a follow up (12.10.7-0001 firmware)
1) 8TB 4Kn not recognised with correct capacity (HUH721008ALN600)
1) 8TB 512e does work however (HUH721008AL5200) and I currently have 6 running in an R710. The only issue I have is that they don't run Dell firmware to generate a warning triangle in the iDRAC.
