Hard Disk Upgrade for Dell Poweredge 2850
I try to find out, if there can be bought current Dell hard disks for upgrading a Dell Poweredge 2850. I have got 2 hard disk slots free and would like to buy two disks as big as possible to upgrade storage capacity. I see the old disks are SCSI and the Website suggests SATA and SAS disks as compatible, but I doubt, that is is correct.
Meanwhile I've contacted the fourth dell employee and I am waiting for more than two weeks for an answer, so I try my fortune here in the forum.
Can anybody help me with this? Service Tag is < ADMIN NOTE : Service Tag removed per privacy policy > , if this could be helpful.

SATA/SAS was supported later on in the system's life, but you do need a SAS backplane and controller.
If you have SCSI RAID controller and backplane, then 300GB, 80-pin would be the largest drives you could get. You would also need the carriers if you don't already have them. You might might be able to find the carriers at a place like circlecomputer.com or impactcomputers.com. You should be able to look on the carriers that you already have to locate a part number, which should be 5 characters long and may start with D/PN: 0xxxxx, where xxxxx is the part number.
SCSI drives are getting hard to come by these days, but newegg may have some here: www.newegg.com/.../ProductList.aspx

There were VERY few of the 2850 II's manufactured, and I believe most of them (if not exclusively) were shipped in the EU. Consequently, most Dell Support techs don't even know about it. If you don't have a 2850 II, then, as already noted, you can only add up to six 300GB drives to this server - or add EXTERNAL storage to it.
