How to connect a raid hdd arry and a dell poweredge 2850

I've got an output on a Raid 12 2TB hdd array (it's a intransa VA-EXPANDR) that takes a SFF-8088 sas cable.

Ive got a dell Poweredge 2850 but it does not have a SAS connector. So two questions

I'll use the poweredge to communicate with the intransa disk array to set up a raid correct?

When can i put on the power edge to make it compatible. The cable i need it to work with has a SFF - 8470. Would i need to install raid controller with that port type?

Morbid Touch,

It wouldn't be supported on the Poweredge 2850, as it was a SCSI based platform, and did not support SAS.

Your best bet would be to go to at least the 9th generation servers (1900, 1950. 2900, or 2950) as they were when SAS technology was added.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to connect a raid hdd arry and a dell poweredge 2850

Thank you for responding as this has been fairly confusing for me. I was actually about to purchase a RAID controller that had an SFF-8088 port and just buy a 8088 to 8088 cable but if it's not even compatible then i would have wasted about $300.

I've also got a Dell r810 in the back, would this be compatible to place a RAID controller with the desired port in it or is it too going to have a mobo that doesn't support SAS technology?

Thanks again

The R810 is an 11th generation server and definitely supports SAS, but you would need to look at the following supported raid controllers. H200 (part # 3J8FW), or the H700 (GRXYF or H2R6M), the H200 being the lower costing of the two.
