OMSA reports disk as 'Non-Critical'

T320 server with PERC H710 controller. Two sets of disks connected. One set SAS (RAID 1) and one set SATA (RAID 1). OMSA displays a yellow exclamation mark at one of the physical SAS drives. I replaced the drive with a similar one, but the yellow exclamation mark persists? Rebooted the machine a couple of times, but that doesn't resolve the issue. Also, OMSA doesn't list some properties of the new drive, like Part Number and Manufacturer day/week/year.

Checked the drive in iDRAC and everything is fine - green check marks everywhere.

So I wonder what's going on?

Simon Weel,

What is the status for the drive, are they Online, Failed, Missing, etc? If they are both Online, but you are seeing the error, then the likely issue is that the server and controller are out of date. If it is foreign then the issue is due to the replacement drive having previous virtual disk configuration information present. In which case you would access the controller and clear the foreign configuration.

Let me know what you see.

What is the make/model of the drive?

The replacement disk was brand new. When I was making some screenshots of both OMSA and iDRAC, I noticed something weird. In OMSA, when I check System > Storage > PERC H710 Adapter tab health, it lists Connector 0 (RAID) with a yellow exclamation mark. Connector 1 is OK. Then when I check System > Storage > PERC H710 Adapter tab Information/Configuration, everything is ok? Green checkmarks only.

Below a copy of the OMSA screen System > Storage > PERC H710 Adapter > Connector 0 (RAID) > Enclosure (Backplane) > Physical disks listing both SAS drives.

Below the OMSA screenshot, a copy of the iDRAC screen Overview > Physical Disks again listing both SAS drives.

The issue looks to be informational is all. The drives you are replacing with, are they dell branded? As it shows that the NoN Critical drive is showing the drive isn't Certified, where the OK Status drive shows it is. Are the drives the same part number?

It's an original Seagate drive - not Dell-branded. That would explain the absence of the part number I guess.

I wonder what the difference is between the original brand and the rebranded one?

Firmware. There are dozens of settings on enterprise RAID controllers. Dell-branded (certified) drives have firmware on them with the drive settings to match what the RAID controller is expecting.

I have eight (8) HGST (Hitachi) drives, model number HUS156060VLS600 and they have a NETAPP firmware. These drives are also produced as DELL branded with different firmware. Do you know how could I change the existing firmware with the correct one, so they will not be marked as "Spun Up" in the status, under OpenManage?
