PERC 5 - No Configuration Present ! Can foreign import damage hdd data ("this is an irreversible process) ?

Our 2950 was humming along well when...

Physical disk 0 changed LED color from green to blinking amber.

The Raid 0 config had two (2) identical drives combined into one VD.

To troubleshoot the amber blink, we re-seated the drives and even swapped their location, ultimately restoring their backplane positions to their original locations.

Suddenly, the amber LED changed to green again!

However, the server will not boot - "zero logical drive(s) found"

PERC reports "No Configuration Present !" in the VD config but also reports two (2) error free drives in the PD config.  It also reports one (1) DG and (1) VD and (2) PD in the Foreign config (contrary to what VD config reports - "No Configuration Present !"

Ubuntu rescue mode (booted from CD) does not see the two physical drives.

What should we do?

Thank you in advance - this server is hosting web services for a non-profit organization.

Excuse the bluntness, but you need to learn about how RAID and this server work before attempting anything. There are many places at which this may have gone permanently bad (I'm not saying it hasn't already).

Boot to the CTRL-R utility, VD MGMT screen, highlight the controller, F2, Foreign, Import.

If it fails to import, go to the CTRL MGMT screen and give me the firmware package version.

Next time, call Dell's Support or post a question here for help in knowing what to do and how to resolve.

Thank you, TheFlash1932.

We followed your foreign import instruction and it was successful.

The server is now back on-line.

Thank you.
