PERC H200A. SAS & SATA. Single raid with 2 extra HDD's. Possible?
Hi.
Looking into the dell R210 II rack server.
Have added 2 x 300gb SAS drives with a PERC H200A raid controller.
The other two empty HDD bays im looking to transfer from our current two SATA 2.5" drives HDD's. Ive read you can mix SATA and SAS drives, is this true?
I have two options with setting up raid:
would the raid controller be able to support two raid 1 raids. 1 for the SAS drives and the other for the two SATA drives? OS can see two drives.
Would it support one raid 1 for HDDs 1&2. Then with HDD 3&4 show the HDD straight to the server. OS sees thre drives. The raided drive and the two other drives.
I tried the dell chat but couldnt get anywhere as the helpdesk agent didnt seem to know that you can google a caddy number and buy the caddy to fit drives with no caddys.

[whisper] I could be wrong :), but I think the H200 supports non-RAID, so if left unconfigured, the disks will be seen by the OS as individual/non-RAID disks. Also, if I'm not mistaken :), the H200 supports a maximum of 2 virtual disks, so a RAID 1 and two 1-disk RAID 0's wouldn't work (in fact, it probably wouldn't let you create a single-disk RAID 0 at all). The h200 could have a 2 drive raid 1 (SAS), and 2 individual SATA drives (which must be set up as individual raid 0 ).

Stand corrected, you do not need to whisper....
as to 2 arrays, saw the non raid disks in the manual. So he should be good with the raid 1 and 2 standard disks.
' I love you pc :)" Same here, but please, no hugs

Thanks both. Thats good news.
Will just need to google the caddy number when it arrives for the two SATA drives.
