PERC H700 Reconfigure Not Showing RAID5 option for Expansion

NX3000: Running Windows Storage Server Standard SP2

PERC FW:12.12.7-0001, PERC Driver Version: 6.801.05.00, Storport Driver: 6.06002.22128

Virtual Disk: RAID5 (Bay 2-5) Was 160GB per, Up-Swapped to 2TB per Rebuild went well.

Go to OMSA Reconfigure VD to take on extra space.

Step1: All Drives Accounted for.

Step2: "Select attributes for the reconfigured virtual disk" shows only RAID-0 radio button.

We need to expand current RAID5?!? Any ideas?

That's not how expansion works on older controllers. Online Capacity Expansion is designed to expand a VD by adding disks. H-series controllers support this feature (WITH the latest firmware), but PERC 5/6 controllers do not.

You will need to backup/restore.

Just to be clear I do appreciate your time!

I thought putting it in Title/Tags and Body was redundant.

That was until you pointed out your perspective.

Anyway...

Dell OpenManage Server Administrator
Version 6.2.0

Yes VD 1 is bay 0/1 VD2 is bay 2/3/4/5.

Can't see the title of the post when responding. Put pertinent info in the post.

What version of OMSA? Do you have one or two VD's configured currently?

I would recommend updating OMSA to a version that might be familiar with the newer firmware capabilities. 7.4 appears to be the latest version supported on Server 2008:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=28KFC&fileId=3365343263&osCode=LHS64&productCode=powervault-nx3000&languageCode=en&categoryId=SM

Yes VD 1 is bay 0/1 VD2 is bay 2/3/4/5.

The reason I ask is because you cannot "reconfigure" an array if there are multiple arrays in the same disk group. So, if you had 3x2TB disks and 100GB RAID 5 VD0 and 3.9TB RAID 5 VD1, you cannot expand the VD. Where you have VD's on separate disk groups, then that should not be the issue.

If I remember right, someone said they were able to do this from the CTRL-R utility ... if you can't get it to work with a later version of OMSA.

I did find the option in the Ctrl-R this morning and will put that into effect tomorrow.

I didn't know you could upgrade OMSA or where to get it so you have enlightened me and it is well appreciated.

Yes, can and should ... I'd recommend updating OMSA at least quarterly when updating drivers and firmware.
