PERC H700 and linux 2.6.33

I also have the same problem as I have just bought 4 machines fully spec'd and they have the H700 and Debian Lenny doesn't seem to be working on them. I need to find out if they do actually work in the next day or two otherwise I'll return the machines as this is crucial as we need them to work with Linux. Also the network cards don't work so I'm pretty much stuck with a machine with a DVD drive at the moment.

Have you tried OpenSuse 11.3 milestone3 ? this distribution is coming with kernel 2.6.33.

I haven't bought yet because I need to know if I buy them with PERC 6/i or H700 RAID Controller.

I have compiled 2.6.33 to a debian package with broadcom+H700 and will test tomorrow on the server to see if it works. I really want to stick to debian as all the other servers have this installed.

Please let me know if you have succeeded to use the H700 controller with the 2.6.33 kernel.

If you install "VMware ESXi free" it have support for H700 if you check this url

But after 60 days you enter "Evaluation mode" and can only use 1 physical CPU right even if you have more then 1 CPU right?

I am about to order a dell r510 with perc h700 they say with vmware I can solve this problem for then it is there problem if I buy the prosupport and vmware support.

Do anyone else have something to say about this? That know vmware better. If so do you recommend that I buy this r510 with H700 and prosupport + vmware support to get this up and running?

VMware ESX/ESXi 4.0 Update 1 supports the H700. It doesn't matter if you use the free version (which indeed only supports 1 processor (with up to 6 cores on that 1 processor)), or the licensed version (licensing goes per processor (max of 6 cores usually per processor)).

So I should buy that with licensed version for 2 cpu's then and I wold be all good to go then? if I like to install debian lenny on it? I am going for 2 cpu's on my r510.

I have made a order of R510 with H700 and vmware. I get it in 3 weeks or so. I will replay back here and say how it go.

Make sure you have an up to date image/iso for ESX/ESXi so that the PERC H700 driver is on the CD already.

Got ESX server installad now on my r510 with H700 made a raid 10 that is 2.38TB the problem is that vmware can't handel 2TB+ so if I split it up and one is 2000.00GB in H700 vmware can't handel that if I type in 1999.99GB it change the value to 1999.98 insted as soon as I change to a other field. sure I can make em 1TB and add em in datastorage insted. I got 2x cpu's with 6 cores eatch but vmware only handel up to 4 exapt if you buy there enterprise plus then you have up to 8...

Anyhow debian lenny amd64 sems to run with out any problems at least. In bios  don't forget to turn on VT under cpu settings and set the time after UTC. Going to order 2 more R510 and install redhat insted so I can use all cores for my new db server. I will run postgres on it.
