PERC H700 does not recognize NAS HDD 4000GB Seagate

I am trying to create three Raid1 Virtual Disks, using 3.64 MiB Seagate drives (new-just purchased) in a T410. The PERC sees the 2TB drives and 1TB drives.

Previously I had 2 VD (4x1TB drives in a RAID10, and 2x2TB drives in a RAID1)

Plugging in the  4TB drives to sata ports on motherboard are recognized and able to add storage to ESXi successfully

Mounting 4TB drives in the PERC H700 the drives are not even seen (BIOS Configuration Utility 2.02-0025.1)

Have spent a great deal of time on this--any help much appreciated.

The Reds are no better of a choice - possibly worse - their power-saving features are likely to cause all kinds of timing issues with the PERC.  NAS drives in general probably shouldn't be considered for use as direct-attached server storage.

Try these - they are verified/certified for use on the H700 (Dell's web price is ridiculously high, so there is an Amazon link as well for the drive at half the price):

John Williams,

The issue may be that the drives are not supported by the controller. What is the manuf. and part number of the drives you are having issues with? I can see if they are compatible with the controller.

Let me know what you find.

I have updated the server; The H700 controller configuration utility is 2.02-0025.1 and still does not see the drives...anyone know what drives *are* supported?

I have to get this working tonight so thought I would go spend another $800 on some WD Red drives...would be nice to know they work before I buy this lot?

Not having to spend $3600...priceless $1276

Thank you!!

I have found that inserting the drives without the cage allows the drives (both Seagate 4TB and WD Red 3TB) to be picked up by the PERC H700.

Have not had time to analyze why.

If you have two sets of holes, use the ones farthest back (towards the backplane - probably labeled SAS) - the SATA holes likely don't set the drive deep enough into the system to interface with the backplane without an interposer.

even more simple--read the manual

I did and found i was skipping steps 2 and 3

Installing a Drive Blank in the Front Bay

  1. Remove the front bezel. See "Removing the Front Bezel."
  2. Open the handle on the drive blank.
  3. Insert the drive blank into the drive bay until the blank is fully seated.
  4. Close the handle to lock the blank in place.

When the drive blank is inserted properly the lights will come on on the front of the cage.
