PERC H700 raid 1 missing virtual disk is cached and I can't import foreign

Hello, I have a h700 perc with a missing RAID controller due to a missing virtual drive 01.  I tried to reinstall the foreign drives so I can get the configuration back that I see in the foreign view. When I look in the foreign view I don't see a virtual drive 01, I only see a virtual drive zero.

The problem I'm having is I'm trying to import the foreign, so that I can restore the raid configuration shown in the foreign view. However, the cashed data from virtual drive 01 which is missing is preventing the import.  The system is raid 1 with four physical drives. Two of them show as ready and two of them show as foreign.

Is there a way for me to retag the missing virtual drive and put the cached data there.

Update, I deleted the existing cached virtual disk 01 and was able to get the controller restored using the foreign import which was fast.  I am using Raid 1 so both virtual disks were not affected but the cached data was my D drive which had all of the virtual machine files on them.  Any thoughts on how to recover the virtual machine dbs?

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell.

è I regret to tell you because of this part, your data can’t be saved even more so. I am assuming the VD is running background initializing. I'm sorry I can't be of help this time.

For future understanding should I have not deleted the cached virtual disk 01? and how would I have gotten past the block that said I could not load the foreign.  Should I have recreated VD 01 with the drives using the cached data?

Tbollers,

That would depend, if you have a backup of the data then I would have tried a retag of the VD (delete VD, and recreate exactly as before without initializing), and if you didn't have a backup then I would have tried the import and then for safety I would have taken to a data recovery provider. Now on a side note, the issue you saw isn't a common one, where you can't import the foreign, so possibly it won't be seen again.
