Running unix on a poweredge 2800 - after a cold reboot system  to looses the date and other bios settings - I go into bios reset date and put info in about the scsi drives and everything works fine- is this the bios battery???

It does sound like the CMOS battery.

Is it giving you any errors at all? It sounds like the battery but I'm surprised it didn't error.

note- have been running for the morning so acts a little differently-

when I power down power back up

get:

detect missing raid hardware from embeded raid subsystem

then gives option press y switch to scsi- when I press Y find the scsi drives boots up fine

in the morning after system being off

system boots may give thse same detect/similar detect message - but have to go into bios and input date and identify scsci drive to get system up and running
