Perc6/I - orange LED when I use SATA disks (HD or SSD)
Hi!
I have a PowerEdge 2950 with Perci6/I.
On 4 SAS disks, 3 are almost dead.
I need to reuse this server. I will buy HD, and I'm looking for SSD (SSD with good garbage collector, Trim fonction, etc. like Corsair Neutron GTX (b?).
If I use Hewlett Packard SAS HD, all is fine.
If I use Sata HD, LED are green, but after post, LED change for orange blinking.
Same problème when I use a Crucial M4 SSD to test.
After looking on Internet, I don't found many informations. If I understand well, it's because it's not HD certified by Dell?
It's possible to erase this alert, tu have green LED, to obtain real alarm when a HD fail?

If the drives are not Dell certified they may not interact with the controller properly, this does typically happen with SSDs. You can try updating the PERC6/I firmware, but if that does not resolve the issue there is not another solution. The controller is not able to pull the proper drive states and they may work but are going to show failed all of the time.

There is a list for compatibles SSD (non Dell)?
I don"t find anything.

I updated the firmware few days ago, I have the same problem.
I am disappointed by this false alarm. I need to use SSD, I will, but without possibility to know if drives are ok or not.

And a list fornon-Dell SAS disks?
Because, if I can't to know if SSD are good or not, I will finally, maybe, use SAS...

Dell does not test/validate/certify every possible drive for use on their controllers; they DO certify drives for their controllers - they are loaded with Dell-specific firmware to make them 100% compatible, then co-branded as a Dell drive. So, look for a Dell SSD drive:

These drives are not just your "run-of-the-mill" generic desktop/laptop consumer drives - they are "enterprise-class" drives. Enterprise-class drives are designed to be used 24x7 (instead of 8x5) and are programmed to know how to respond to enterprise-level commands that come from enterprise-class RAID controllers. Consumer-class drives do NOT know how to properly respond to those commands, which can make their operation unpredictable at best.
The drive manufacturer often will release a list of controllers THEY have tested the drives with ... chances are, your drives were not designed for RAID and were not certified for use on a PERC by the drive manufacturer, and they simply doesn't know how to properly communicate their status to the controller.
Sure, people use consumer SSD's in servers, but it is a matter of trial and error to find ones that work at an acceptable level (if not using certified drives) ... "acceptable" might mean something different for each person, so for some the drive status might be important, while for others, they might be able to live without it.
I believe people have had fairly good luck with the Intel enterprise SSD's.

About your links : unfortunately, I don't have this budget. I was going to buy 6 x Corsair Neutron GTX 240 Go for Raid10, to 1050€ ( ~1200-1300$).
I will search more, but finaly, I'll have to buy SAS I think.
