Power Edge T 430 Help With Storage Raid Configuration

Hello,

I need some help please.

I have a Power Edge T 430 server. I am running out of space on C drive. I have 2 partitions which is C and D. What is the safest way to extend the C drive by taking some from D drive partition?  I know that i cannot do this from Windows but is there a software that does this safely?

How do i check the current raid configuration?

If adding another hard drive the safest way how do i do this so the C drive has more space.

Thanks in advance.

There are partition managers that can do this on the fly, but they all cost money. With Windows, how you would do this is backup everything, delete D:, extend C: using Disk Management or diskpart, then restore data to the smaller partition. Does house anything beside regular Shared data?

Hello,

You can control the RAID configuration in several different ways. If you want to check the RAID configuration without restarting the server, you can check it with OMSA (OpenManage Server Administrator). If you search for OpenManage Server Administrator in the search section here https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/poweredge-t430/drivers  you can use the version suitable for the operating system you choose. Storage>Controller>PERC> Virtual Disks

If you have iDRAC access, you can still check the Virtual disks section under Storage.

Or by restarting, you can access the PERC BIOS with "CTRL+R" if the PERC card you are using is hardware or "CTRL+S" if it is software.

Or reboot again and hit F2>System setup>Devices>PERC

Extending the C-section is another matter entirely. I always recommend you to work on the existing system by taking backups. Because such performs are always risky. You can review the article here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/extend-a-basic-volume

And you can review the article here https://www.diskpart.com/server-2016/extend-volume-windows-server-2016-4125.html

If you want to expand the VD later, the videos here may be helpful.

Hope this will helps!

Hi thank you. i'm able to see the storage using iDrac now. It is on Raid 5.  Now it is the matter of expanding storage on C partition. The D partition has important data but also a lot of free space.
