PowerEdge T110 Server hardware RAID
Hi,
I am not sure SAS hard disks are in hardware RAID on our server. how many SAS disks can I add to the server?
What we have now:
146GB 3.5-inch 15K RPM SAS Hard Drive ( three disks but when I opened the server case I saw 4 disks)
SAS 6/iR Controller Card, SAS6ir / S300 Controller Cable.
I only see one cable is available when I opened the server case.

The T110 will take 4 drives (SAS and/or SATA).

Each connector on the SAS 6/iR will support 4 drives. You could put another cable on the second connector of the controller, but you can't add more than 4 drives to the server chassis.

Thank you for your reply.
How can I know SAS disks are hardware RAID or support software RAID?

The only differences between SAS and SATA drives are internal (and their connectors). Both can be used in hardware or software RAID, but you should not use hw\sw RAID together.

Are they any ways to find out what I have is hardware RAID without going into BIOS?

SAS6iR = Hardware raid (w/o cache, so not as fast as a PERC5, PERC6, PERC H700 or PERC H710).
PERC S-series = Software/firmware raid (S for Software)
