Problem doing Disk Controller Updates

Hi,

We have a Dell R710 with an H700 controller, and a perc6/e controller for an external DAS.

On this we have installed Windows Server 2008 x32 enterprise.

Firmware needs to  be updated on both of these controllers but I have been unsuccessful doing so.

The upgrade attempt for both acts the same so I will only describe the situation for the perc6/e.

I downloaded sas_raid_perc6e_6.3.3-0002_a00_zpe.exe, ran it, and allowed it to unzip to the default location.

From there I have tried the following regarding update.bat:

double-clicking it

right-clicking and selecting 'Run As Administrator'

Opening a command prompt as administrator and executing update.bat from there.

In all cases, both on the 6e and the h700, the cmd window just hangs forever displaying "Please wait while supported controller(s) are detected.

Has anyone seen this and/or have a solution?

Thanks for your help

Also, on the H700, both connector 0 and connector 1 show caution signs, but when I drill down, I never see anything wrong.

In the information/configuration page it shows backplane degraded with an express service code of 2878862887 but the disks all show ok and it doesnt give any further clues as to what it things is wrong unless it just wants the firmware updated.... The connector status shows ok....

thx
