R440 - upgrade from non-RAID to RAID with H330

Hi. I have an R440 that was purchased with no RAID controller.  It has the 4 x 3.5 HDD backplane (SATA SSD).  I would like to add a hardware RAID controller.   Budget is more important than performance so I am looking at the H330.

My questions are:

1.  Does the full-height PCIe riser that comes with the R440 support the H330?
2.  What new cable(s) will I need?  The SATA cable from the backplane currently connects directly to the MB.  Will this cable be removed and the backplane will connect directly to the H330?  I ask this as I saw a youtube H330 installation video that appears to have SATA cables running between the H330 and the MB SATA ports. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65ZfAs20FiM

If it helps, here are a few pictures of the R440 I currently have and how it's cabled.

Thanks so much in advance for any guidance you can give me.

Additional information:    I need storage redundancy.  I'm ok with software RAID with the exception of the boot drives - it's gotten significantly more complicated since I last did it in NT 3.51 where all I needed was a boot disk on hand in the event of a failure.

You read the above post - maybe a simpler solution is for me to add the entry-level BOSS card and two 128Gb m.2 drives.

What do you think?

Hi,

If you have purchased a PCI-E riser along with in the first place, you can just buy the items below for extra

2G2R5   BRKT,PERC9,LPF,H730/H330,KIT

CG2YM  PWA,CTL,SAS,H330+,V2,FOX,ADPT

8YMGD  ASSY,CBL,SAS,PERC,X4BP,R440

And rid of the existing SATA cable.

Hello Young E, I am planning to install an h330 card on Dell power edge r440 at the client's end. Hope your solution works for me. I may need information regarding this issue while deploying in the future. Can you help me?

Hello make sure you back up the data first. You will need to re install the OS as well.

Hi, I've checked the part numbers and the below part number seems compatible with R440 but 6H1G0 seems not compatible. So I can't guarantee it works without a problem.

CG2YM
PWA,CTL,SAS,H330+,V2,FOX,ADPT

Hello Rahim777, please consult your dealer before purchasing. As a technical team member, it seems to be compatible with the POWEREDGE R440 in the spare parts system.

Hello Abdur,

These should be the components for an R440 with 8x2.5 backplane and an H330+controller.

You may already have some on these parts on hand you can check off the list.

Part#:

94J5V - Backplane        ASSY,CRD,BKPLN,8X2.5,R640

2G2R5 - Bracket        BRKT,PERC9,LPF,H730/H330,KIT

13J2R - Cable        ASSY,CBL,I2C,X8BP,R440

V8KW4 - Cable        ASSY,CBL,SAS,PERC,X8BP,R440

75D1H - PERC        PWA,CTL,SAS,H330+,FOX,ADPT

0VG0Y - Riser        ASSY,MECH,RSR,INTL,PERC,R4/540

Changing of backplane configuration is not typically support. We don't have kits for this.

As Erman mentioned please consult your dealer before purchasing.

so, i can use any of these mentioned perc on my r440 BPx8
right?
and i have a confusion regarding the cabling part.
as far as i know sas cable will connect perc to BP of hard drive
but in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65ZfAs20FiM&ab_channel=DellQuickResourceLocator) i noticed,
perc connector cable is directly connected with the MB sata ports and one MB sata port is connected with the BPx4
