R630 no option for storage when repurposing

Hello,

I have a R630 with iDRAC 8.

Today I updated all firmwares, bios, idrac and SAS controller to prepare for repurposing the server.

According to the lifecycle controller manual, there should be a option under "Storage compontents" that will either be cryptographic erase disks, or "standard disks(overwrite data)" depending on the system.

However, mine does not have any of these options.

The only two options available under storage is:

vFLASH SD Card & Hardware Cache.

Why is this?

I have not noticed anything strange with the disks, I can manage them as per usual in the iDRAC.

Any clues on whats going on? What would be the best way to erase the disks if this option is not available?

Hello,

First we need to know what controller you are using. (if it’s an old one, there might be no luck, I'm afraid)

I'm very sorry for my late reply to this. My notifications was messed up, so was thinking I had not got any reply.

The controller is: PERC H730 Mini (Embedded)

Yes I can log in to the RAID bios.

The options are as in the manual however, it is just missing the "that will either be cryptographic erase disks, or "standard disks(overwrite data)" depending on the system." which is stated in the manual.

Everything else is working as expected and there is no error messages anywhere. All disks are performing as normal and is accessible.

Hello could you please state the issue you are facing one more time? Is there something not working for you, still?

Yes, so, I have no option to erase my disks in my lifecycle controllers. Two almost identical servers with the same issue.

Everything is working as normal, I do have access to everything, but the option is just not there?

Can you check the firmware version of the iDRAC and also the firmware of the PERC? That could be the reason

Hello if you look at this article, it says

https://dell.to/3NmKex5

"There will be an option for “Cryptographic Erase Disks”.  All current shipping servers come with either SED or ISE drives, and are capable of a Cryptographic Erase.
If you have an older platform before such drives were shipped, you will have a Standard Disks Overwrite Data option."

I'm wondering if you have that " older platform" mentioned above.

Hello!

Thank you four your reply.

Unfortunately, neither of these options are visible on my machines. And they both are the same.

This seems very very odd. Not sure what can be causing this?

could you provide pictures of what you see exactly?

Hello!

Please see screenshot below.

The selection should be under "Storage compontents" according to the manual.

It should either state cryptographic erase or "normal erase". But none of the servers have either options even visible.

Hello, I’m wondering if you see some VD configuration on the controller- or if it’s deleted at all.
