RAID 1 support on Dell PowerEdge R730 with Perc H730 and SSD disks

Hello. I am looking for some info about using RAID with SSD disks on our server:

Dell PowerEdge R730
Perc H730 Integrated RAID controller 1 GB cache
200 GB Solid State Drive SAS Mixed Use MLC 12 Gbps 2.5 inch
OS Windows 2008 R2 (for now)

We would like to know if it is supported to use two SSD disks in a RAID 1 configuration.

What are the risks?
Any suggestions for other/better solutions?
How does the controller or SSD handle Garbage collection, Trim, and other SSD techniques?
Are there any solutions in place for Wear leveling and how do they work?
What are the protection methods for I/O failures for these SSD disks and / or PERC controllers?

I hope you can answer (some of) the question or point me in the right direction for some Dell documentation about this subject.

thx

Hello Arjan

Yes, you can use SSDs in a RAID 1.

The controller supports TRIM and unmap commands. MLC SSDs are consumer grade SSDs that will not have the life expectancy of SLC.

Hello Daniel,

thank you for your information. We also will be looking into the MLC remark.

what is the Dell recommended RAID settings for SSD such as (read ahead/no read ahead) (write back/write through) (virtual drive cache enabled/disabled)

currently we are running new R730s with LITEON SSDs in RAID-1 with No Read Ahead, Write Back and no caching on the virtual drive. This was the best settings we could find in trolling google and using an SSD benchmark utility.
