RAID 5 doesn't show up on windows server 2019
Hi everyone .
I have PowerEdge R740.
I have created RAID 5 with Hot spare ( 13 drives with additional one as hot spare) . I did it using Life Cycle DELL 's tool .
I have another set of drives configured as RAID 1 for the OS . I installed Windows server 2019 there . However I can't see any RAID 5 configuration available . All I have is 2 unallocated partitions . One consists on 13 drives and another is the hot spare I have created . I can't even choose anything from the drop down menu . What am I missing here ?
All the drives (Both RAID 1+5) are available on Perc H730 RAID controller .
What can be dome to solve it ?

Since I couldn't find a workaround for this I have decided to disconnect all the RAID 5 SAS drives and perform clean installation while only the SSD drives intended for the OS installation are connected . This step forced windows installer to install the reserved partition on the OS partition and now I should be able to configure the other drives as RAID 5 ( I didn't configure them yet but it should work ) .

Could you do us a favor and include an image of the Disk Mgmt? What I think is that the raid 5 is showing, but it will report as Unallocated space until it is configured in the OS. The other thing is that the hotspare shouldn't show in the OS, so I believe what you're seeing is the recovery partition that the LCC tool creates.
If you provide the disk mgmt screenshot we should be able to tell.

The OS installation created some reserved partition on it but it is in addition to the hot spare and others HDs . I know the hot spare should not be shown . That's one of the reasons I don't understand what's going on ...
Below is disk mgmt screenshot .
Also I don't understand why re-creating RAID 5 using the Life Cycle deletes also the RAID 1 I configured . It's on the same RAID controller but different sets of storage ( SSD)

Can you check whether Disk 0 and Disk 1 shown on Disk Management is matching with virtual disk size shown on iDRAC?

I didn't configure IDARC yet (I don't know how . Should check this ) . Other than that the machine is not connected to the network yet ( And I can't just connect it ...)

If not iDRAC can you check whether size of Disk 0 and Disk 1 matching with virtual disk created. You can check this using PERC configuration utility during boot.

One possibility for this behavior could be you having MBR Disk on windows. MBR have limitation of 2TB space. That could be the reason you are having 2TB for 2 partition (Reserved 549MB and Unallocated 2047.46GB) and remaining space as another unallocated space. you can confirm whether you are having MBR disk by right click on Disk 0 and see whether you are getting convert to GPT option.
One way to fix it to convert MBR disk to GPT Disk where GPT can handle more than 2TB. But we can not do that on your disk as it already have formatted partition and with formatted partition you can not convert disk between MBR and GPT.
Another option is to deleted the Reserved partition then convert to GPT Disk. With this you will loose data on the reserved partition.

Actually I'm not even sure why the reserved partition was created there in first place . It should be created under the OS SSD drive . Anyway , I'll check that asap .

Hi .
Right click on disk 0 doesn't give me the option to convert to GPT . It's grayed out so it's probably mean it is MBR . I also can't delete this partition (Plus it is highly not recommended as it's include the boot files ...) . Some way to go around this must be available somewhere ...`I even tried to clone the reserved partition to the OS disk which worked but I still can't delete the reserved partition in the other disk .

I just had the same issue and found in system config under sata config i think it says boot with options acpi etc.
One of them says raid. After that you need to confirm the change after you exit setup by pressing Y. If the windows installer still does not see the raid setup, you may need to delete all partition from within setup in win installation and will end up seeing the raid you configured.
