Raid Controller

Hi Good day!

I would like to ask question about Raid controllers in Poweredege series R630,R730,R720,R930.

Is higher firmware version of raidcontroller incompatible to lower server firmware version/raidcontroller firmware version when replacing parts?

Hi Robert,

Thank you for the response. The situation is we have 2 R720 with old and new firmware versions and the old version R720’s Raid controller broke. We are planning to replace the Raid controller with the newer firmware version R720’ Raid controller. We are not yet ready to upgarde the firmware of the R720 with broken Raid controller. Will there be a conflict if we use newer firmware Raid controller in older bios firmware?

Best Regards,

Tim

Hello.

Not any that I know. However, sometimes the controller may not correctly report the status of the virtual disk and physical disks when the BIOS, controller and iDRAC firmware is out of date. It is recommended that you keep your system up to date for optimal operation.

If possible, perform the system firmware upgrade before replacing this controller with a new one. Remember to backup the data before replacing the controller

Very unlikely that there will be a conflict as long as you correctly import but not clear the foreign configuration from the older controller into the new one.
