Raid configuration of raid 0 and raid 1 separately
Hello everyone, hope you're all good.
Today i've tried to add a new hard drive to my Dell poweredge 2950 as raid 1 bsides the other hard drive in raid 0, and i have totally forgotten how to separate two hard drives on PE 2950 because i deal a lot with PE 2850. Would you please give instructions.

It is exactly the same idea as the 2850: you cannot have a 1-disk RAID 1, and to use a single disk it must be a RAID 0.
Also, if you do this using OpenManage, it is exactly the same as doing it on a 2850.
If you are doing this in the CTRL-R utility, again, very similar - you create a new Virtual Disk, using the only available disk (the new one). Be sure to check the Advanced/Initialize boxes when creating it.
To be honest, I can't think how you possibly did this. It is pretty straightforward, and like I said, nearly identical to a 2850 - if not the exact steps, then the process.

Good you got it straightened out, thankfully you have the ghost copy . Most play first, then wish they had something to go back too.

Yeah, you should never force online drives unless told to by someone experienced enough to tell you when you should and why :)
BTW ... while RAID 1 does not "merge two into one", it can appear that way - two drives in one virtual disk, managed by the PERC, which mirrors one disk to the other, however Windows will ONLY see one disk - the configured VIRTUAL disk; Windows cannot see individual hard drives in a hardware RAID.

If you are converting from RAID 0 to RAID 1, then the idea is the same - use OpenManage and Reconfigure the Virtual Disk.

Thank for replying.. no i'm not converting, i already have a system disk on raid 0, i just want to add a drive on raid 1 ( storage only with no other effect what so ever )

Hey pcmeiners , you're right maybe i should explain better but i did say i work a lot with PE2850 so pardon me guys, and yes so far i am getting closer you mention that i need to configure it as another raid 0, now i just need to know the steps. Because i tried to do it like an hour ago it didn't work, i got two drives merged and lost data ( i have another data ghost)

Edd if you want an answer you need to explain correctly, 1 drive can not be a raid 1, raid 1 requires 2 drive minimum. If you want a single drive added for storage you would configure the added drive as another raid 0.
