SATA to SAS Cable adapter
Hello,
I have two SAS hard disks and I need to use them on my Server PowerEdge R220
I already have two cabled SATA hard drives connected with SATA cables to my Server motherboard.
Could you please advise which cable I should get from Dell and which part number is right for it?

Hello
The controller for the system board is SATA only. SAS drives will not work in the R220 unless you install and attach them to a hardware RAID controller.

Hi Daniel,
Even if I get the cable in the provided link above?
A friend of mine said that it should work but will still have SATA features not the SAS advantages.
Please advise me as I need to resolve this issue.

No, SAS controllers are generally backward compatible with SATA drives, but SAS drives are not backward compatible with SATA controllers. There may be a drive SAS drive somewhere that is able to operate on either SAS or SATA, but I'm not aware of one and there is not one supported on the R220.
