Using 3.5" Sata drives in PowerEdge 320 Eight 2.5" Hard-Drive System

Hi All,

I got given an a second hand PowerEdge 320 8 2.5" bay server and it looks to be setup for hot swap. It came with 4 2.5" SAS drives but I want to set it up to use some 3.5" Sata drives I already have. Is it possible for me to do this?

From reading this forum post (op seemed to have a Sata cabled system and wanted to go to SAS) there were a couple of cables (H3YKR and XP00F) that were suggested that (from their descriptions) looked like they could achieve what I'm looking for.

The server has a H310 mini controller.

Regards,

Tim

There wouldn't be a supported route in doing so, as there is a chassis difference between the 2.5 and 3.4 in drive versions. If you were to cable the 3.5in drives there wouldn't be a way to mount or install them in the server. Now if you had the 3.5 in drive chassis you would be able to use 2.5 in drives as there is carrier to house them, but not a supported way to install larger drives in the smaller drive chassis.
