What is the Actual Hot Swap Process for a failed hard drive?

Hi

I would like to know, how one must peform a Hot Swap when a failed disk has been identified and also how one might know when a sucessful re-build is taking place once the new new disk is in place.

Can you please explain in steps how this can be done?
