c2100 expander question
Hello,
Trying to build Ceph cluster with 12x3.5 HDDs in non-raid config and 2x SSD is connected to on-board sata ports used as journal device.
I have two questions regarding my current c2100 servers.
1. Does LSI SAS 9211-8i works with C2100 3.5 backplane expander in non-raid mode? If yes, where is the jumper settings diagram. I can't find it in the hardware manual.
2. What's the speed of on-board sata ports? is it sata 3? Hardware manual does not have the sata port details.
Thanks,
Novanet

Hello Novanet
No, the only validated controller that supports JBOD/Non-RAID mode is the H200. You can configure all of the HDDs as single drive RAID 0's, but I'm not sure if that will work with the ceph cluster.
They are 3Gb/s ports with a max theoretical speed of 300MB/s.
Yes, you can install two per channel for a maximum of 144GB.

MGY5T 16GB DIMM, 1333MHz, 2RX4, 8X, 240, Regulatory, Low Voltage

Does c2100 supports 16G ddr3-1333 LV modules? If yes, how many can I install on a single processor (X5650) system. Please suggest channel/dimm slot configuration

Hello. I know this post is a bit old but I'm hoping someone will read this.
I purchased several PowerEdge C2100 units.
I also purchased the SAS/SATA internal drive cable that gives 2 SAS/SATA connectors into one mini-SATA connector amphenol connector.
According to Dell to use the internal drives, to attach them, I need the Expander Backplane.
Does anyone know what this is or a way to actually electrically attach the internal hard drives?
I don't understand why this seems to be rock science and no one even at Dell knows what I'm talking about. I simply need to get the internal drives connected, to something LOL...
thanks anyone, and everyone...
David.
