PowerEdge Servers that Support Hyper-V

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2.

I am shopping for a refurbished PowerEdge server that will support Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2 and HYPER-V in particular.  Can anyone point me to a list of PowerEdge servers that support hyperthreading and Hyper-V?  Before I purchase a refurbished unit from EBay or elsewhere, I want to be certain that it supports Hyper-V.  From my searches on the topic I surmise that starting with the "9th generation" of servers, hyperthreading was supported by the processors.  However, I do not know what list of servers constitutes the 9th generation.  Any help will be appreciated.

The chart in the wikipedia shows 1900, 1950, 1955, 2900, 2950, 2970, and 6950 as 9th generation servers.  They show CPU types of Xeon and Opteron.  Do ALL of these servers support VT, or as you appear to indicate above that some do and some do not?

All 9th generation machines and newer (we are at 12G now) shipped with processors that support VT (VT is what is required for Hyper-V).  Before buying anything, you will need to check the processor specs.  Some lower-end systems shipped with processors that did and processors that didn't support VT, so you would need to ensure that the processor configured in it is actually capable of supporting VT.

Do you have got one in mind?

All of those do, so if you stick to that list, then you'll be ok.  The PowerEdge 840 is listed as 8G but is actually a 9G system - it supports VT and non-VT processors.  All generations have low-end servers that may have processors that do not support VT.

The servers that you listed all do support VT.

Some of the very low end servers (e.g. T110) were available with processors (e.g. Celeron) that didn't support VT, but if it's a Xeon or Opteron in one of those listed servers, you have VT available.
