R720 and PCIe power capability

Hello all,

I need to know if the PCIe slots on the Dell R720 (12 gen) are 75W capable.  I am installing FusionIO Duo cards and although I have the Supported Slot Matrix, it isn't making much sense from an electrical point of view.  I can see that the Fusion card needs to be in slots 4-7 for physical reasons, but the FusionIO Duo I have, has a 55W power requirement.

I need to know if I can turn on PCIe extended power or need the external power connector.

Thanks

JW

Yes, slots 1-3 are 25W and slots 4-7 are 75W.

Thanks

I am working on an identical issue; how do we go about enabling 75W power on this slot?  I can't seem to see anything in BIOS that would allow it, and Dell and FusionIO's documentation also doesn't lead me in the right direction.  Any help is very much appreciated.

You do not need to enable anything on the slot. The slot is capable of supplying up to 75 watts.

The card is set to not draw more than 25w from the PCI bus by default. If it is connected to a 25w PCIe slot then you will need to connect it to a power supply. If it is installed into a slot capable of supplying adequate power then you just need to enable full power draw from the PCI bus. This can be done through the IO management software.

I don't have a simulator for the management software handy, but if you are unable to find the option let me know and I will locate one to test with.

Thanks
