Resource Config Help - Promise Ultra 133 TX2 IDE Controller - Poweredge 2300
Re: Poweredge 2300 Server Windows NT4 Server SP6a
Tape Drive: ARCHIVE Python 04106 DDS3 Firmware 7600
I recently had a 120GB IDE Harddrive installed onto a Promise Ultra 133 ATA IDE Card in our Poweredge 2300 Server
The new harddrive works great, but I believe (and not positive) that maybe this is causing my Tape Backup drive not to work correctly.
Around the same time the Tape Drive Backups are giving
several failure errors re: I/O hardware errors, but some do work fine, overall it's about 1/2 and 1/2.The Tape Drive has been in use since approx 8/1999 and basically has worked perfectly. Only recently has it started acting up.
Browsing Dell's site, I have tried several things: Multiple cleanings, Tape drive firmware update, so far nothing helps, still get some to work, some not. Some restore's work, some not.
Another thing I've read to do is run the Resource Configuration Utility, I tried that but wasn't sure what to do with it.
It doesn't appear to recognize the new IDE Promise Card which is in PCI slot 2, it states it is empty. There is a way to manually add it but it wants information such as IRQ, DMA etc...
So one question is:
Should the RCU have recognized the Promise Card by itself.
If not,
How do I obtain the information that it wants to manually add the card, IRQ, DMA etc...
Another question:
Does anyone think this could be the problem or is it actually a Tape Drive Hardware problem, meaning could the addition of a IDE harddrive actually conflict with a SCSI Device such as the Tape drive or would one of them simply not work at all instead of the Tape Drive working sporadically.
Thanks for any help you may provide.
