Not sure why my original post went awry.. something to do with using Opera rather than MS explorer.

Anyway, can anyone confirm exactly which gigabit chip is in the PowerEdge 600SC?

I believe that it may be a "intel pro/1000 desktop MT" aka 82540EM, but it's not specified on the product page. I'm trying to confirm this before I buy a 600SC to run Solaris x86 - I believe that the 82540EM *is* supported, but other gigabit interfaces may not be.

Better still - does anyone know for sure that Solaris x86 does work on the PE600SC?

Hi,

The embedded Network Interface Controller is the Intel 82540EM Gigabit NIC. Solaris x86 has not been officially validated on the PowerEdge 600 SC.

Can't install Solaris x86 on Dell PowerEdge 700 either, as SATA drives are not supported by Solaris x86. Network/video card was not a problem with Solaris 9.
