Dell PowerEdge R730 with PERC H730 Controller ESXi 6.0
We have a new R730. The drive configuration consists of two virtual drives: a 2.78GB RAID 1 and a 2 TB RAID 10. ESXi 6 from the Dell iso (VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0.update03-5050593.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A00) is installed on the first virtual drive. ESXi sees the 2TB drive but will not create a data store on it.
When attempting to use the 2 TB drive, it says it will format it to 280 GB instead of 2 TB. The format then fails with a message that ESXi cannot change the host configuration.
At this point we're stymied. What do we need to do to make this go? Thanks,

Change drives to 512n drives. ESX 6.5 will eventually have support for 4k, but 6.0 may not. https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2091600

Hi,
Are the drives 4k sector drives? Did the initialization on the raid complete before you tried to create the datastore?

Yes on the second question. On the first, the idrac shows them as 64k stripes, but my guess is that's not what you mean. How can I tell?
Thanks.

What model are the drives? Drives used to have 512 bytes per sector, some drives now have 4096 bytes. Esx doesn't work well with 4k sectors.

Thanks. I'll get with my VAR to get the proper drives.

Model number AL13SXB60EA
The label also says 4Kn, which I suspect means 4k sectors. If that's the case, what can I do?
