Driver for "DP BACKPLANE SCSI Enclosure Device" ?

Hello All,

I just got a brand new PE1950 with an internal SAS 6/iR. We also purchased a PERC 6/E card that is attached
to an MD1000 storage array with a couple of SATA disks in it so far. Installed Windows 2003 Server R2 x64 on
the server. Went into the PERC BIOS (via Ctrl-R) and set up the 2 SATA drives in the MD1000 in a RAID 1 array.

The issue is that in Device Manager, there is one item labeled "DP BACKPLANE SCSI Enclosure Device" that is in
error without a proper driver. Now I'm guessing this is the disk enclosure within the MD1000, as I also can't format
the virtual disk that the Disk Management tool sees. At least, it [the Disk Management tool] does see it.

I've been through the Drivers and Downloads section of support.dell.com for both the PE1950 and MD1000 but
don't see anything that would fit this bill. I've also ensured that the drivers for both the SAS 6/iR and PERC 6/E
cards are up to date. Also, the Dell Build and Update Utility CD doesn't have any drivers that look appropriate.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

You can download the following ISO and create a DVD from it to update your entire system.  It should include the driver for the MD1000.

I finally got that huge (1.3GB) ISO (Server Update Utility) downloaded (the connection kept getting broken and
Dell's server didn't allow for resuming downloads). Anyway, I ran it on my server and it says that everything is
up to date.

I didn't notice any drivers for the MD1000, although there were firmware options for it. I did also notice that
there was SAS/SATA Backplane firmware, but again, SUU reported that it was up to date. The drivers for my
PERC 6/E and SAS 6/i cards are also up to date.

Any other suggestions?
Thx!

Here's another data point. I just got another PE1950, also with a SAS 6/iR controller.
It's not hooked up to an MD1000 or anything else right now. I also installed Windows
2003 Server x64 on it, and am having the same issue with it looking for a driver for
the DP BACKPLANE SCSI Enclosure Device driver.

Since this wasn't a critical issue, I only just got around to testing out this recommended solution. I installed it on 2 1950s and it worked like a champ. Quick install too that doesn't require a reboot.

Thanks @tmurfet!

I just installed Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2 on a new PowerEdge 840 server and I'm having the same problem with the "DP BACKPLANE SCSI Enclosure Device" not being recognized. I've tried the above fixes with no luck. I have the hot-swap 3.5" SAS backplane and 5iR controller if that matters. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,

Here's an updated link:

For some reason it's categorized "SCSI non-RAID Controllers"

Hahaha!

I found this thread as I googled the DP error message. I need to rebuild a PE840 system for a client I support. It has, you guessed it, as a previous poster stated a SAS 5i/R RAID controller card and hot-swap 3.5" SAS backplane. Neither of the above links work so off to burn a few cell minutes talking with Dell Server Support.

Clicking on the above link (Mo Sheberg's) produces:

I know this topic is about five years old but I was searching for the same driver today and took a while. For reference the Dell Backplane, A05 driver for the Storage Backplane for the PE195X models can be downloaded from here. Note: If you're clicking this link while signed into these forums it will attempt to search Dell Community, not Dell.com - just click the radio button in the tope right of the screen.

To keep you from having to "search" more for it, here is the download page intended for that link:

The DellBPA05 file worked great! Once again awesome help from theflash1932.

on the PE1950, we used a usb floppy with PERC drivers then booted from W2k3 OS disks.

thanks B
