How to install windows 2003 on R720 server?

i read that with r720 u cant install windows server 2003 directly you need to install as VM but i read something about getting the right drives for the raid controller or something like that my r720 has PERC H710 INTEGRATED RAID CONTROLLER. if anyone could provide steps as which i can install 2003 and if there are any custom drives or software i would need to do so

Thank You

Why not install 2003 as a VM?

There is no 2003 driver for the H710.  You can "try" this:

2008x86 for H710m on R720:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-r720?driverId=H9W18&osCode=WLHS1&fileId=3366404030&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SF

You must download the "hard drive" version of the driver and run to extract its contents before use.

Also keep in mind that the PERC does NOT support non-RAID, so you MUST configure/initialize RAID in the CTRL-R utility BEFORE any drives can been seen by the OS, even if you do find drivers that work.

Hi,

It is recommended to do it as a virtual machine, this is the only validated way. The LSI version of the driver may work, but has not been tested.

Which controller? Which utility? If you are talking about SBUU/SMTD, then which version are you using? Not all versions will work. If you are installing directly from the Windows disk, you will need to load the RAID drivers in order to see the drive. Your Windows media must also have SP2. You also should have created your own thread, since your post has nothing to do with the original thread.
