How to switch eth4 to eth0 on RHEL 5.7

We have 4 Broadcam NICS and 4 Inetl NICS on the blade server Linux OS (RHEL 5.7).

It's assigned eth0-eth3 for Broadcam NICS and eth4-eth7 for Intel.

Our LAN should be connected to Intel NIC which is assigned to eth4.

To keep main LAN on eth0 how do we switch the order to assign eth4 as eth0 without confusing the system?

Greatly appreciate your replies.

Lgitten,

You would need to go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ethX

and then configure each nic. You will need to edit the EthX file in that folder.

You may also need to edit /etc/modprobe.conf

This is the RHEL Deployment Guide, it will assist you in configuring the network as you wish.

Let me know how it goes.

Here is the correct link - docs.redhat.com/.../index.html

No, it shouldn't confuse the OS, as it is loading that information prior. Let me know if you have any issues with this link.

Do you mean I would need to switch network info and HWADDR address for eth0 and eth4 in  /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ethX ?

If I switch HWADDR between eth0 and eth4 NICS would that confuse the OS when it starts?

Also, this link is dead go.us.dell.com/new.servicje

What's the correct one?

Thanks.
