Installing Novell 5.1 on a PowerEdge 600SC - HELP!!!!!

Hi !

We have a Dell Poweredge 600SC server and we are trying to install novell 5.1 on it. We get as far as installing the  drivers and then when it goes to copy the system files it gives us the error message " File Z:\sys\system\conlog.nlm was not found. (ISMD-5.0-12).

Can anyone help???

Are you using the Dell Server Assistant CD to install NetWare, or are you just booting straight from the Novell CD?

Hi!

We were booting from the Novell 5.1 CD. Actually we figured out our problem. The cd drive was connected to the 3rd IDE controller, so we moved it to the 2nd controller and everything is working fine.

Thanks

I have had zero luck in installing 5.1 on my 600sc poweredge server.  what did you do to get it up and running.

I asked the dell tech support and all they wanted to tell me is that the 600sc doesn't support nw5.1

Thanks.

Hi!

Try this...go to novell's website and download Novell 5.1 with service pack 5 or 6. They should have a download that will allow you to make a bootable CD with the service packs.

The PowerEdge 600SC has three internal independent IDE channels on the system board. IDE channels 1 (Primary) and 2 (Secondary) support ATA-100 however, channel 3 (Tertiary) only supports ATA-66. This offers support for IDE Tape Backup Units and CD/DVD ROM drives.
IDEATA.HAM does not support the Tertiary controller. Usually moving the CDROM to the Secondary IDE channel and using the latest overlay CD from Novell will allow Netware to install.

FYI,

Changing the cd rom to the secondary IDE channel and installing the latest novell ovelay cd worked for me.

Thanks!
