LSI Logic controller & Netware
Hello,
I have a PowerEdge 1600sc (5P3TC21) running Netware 6 SP5. The onboard LSI scsi controller is connected to a DLT tape drive.
When using Novell's SBCON to backup the server an error message appears.
"SMSDI unable to write to media. TSA Error code: fffcffce"
Everything is fully patched including Bios, tape drivers, firmware, and the latest TSA update from novell.
The solution to date has been to add a pci Adaptec 29160n card to the server and backup from that which works fine. We've had to do this on 3 production servers.
Is there an incompatiblity between the LSI component and Netware that I am not aware of or is there anyway to make this work.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

There can be problems with tape drives attached to scsi 4 controllers which is what is in this server. You can try slowing down the scsi transfer rate in the scsi bios, but if that doesn't fix the problem I recommend installing either an Adaptec 39160 or 29160.
