Novell 5.1 SP8 installing on PowerEdge 800 with SATA Drive Error

I am trying to install Novell Netware 5.1 on my new PE800 and when I get to the storage drivers section of setup, I plug in the AARICH.HAM driver (as dell has supplied from the drivers section) and netware then asks for the port it is installed on.  I have looked and the port tells me 10012, 10014, 10016 and 10019 depending on the IRQ in bios that I choose.  The problem is that no matter which one I choose, it fails to load.  It tells me that the device failed to load and it may be disabled.  I know the device isn't disabled because I am booting a DOS partion from it before I start the installation.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

BTW...I have even downloaded the Service Pack 8 from novell to get the latest AARICH.* files with no luck.

Thanks
Doug

Have you tried using the Dell Server Assistant CD that came with your server to install the operating system? You will want to use the Netware 5.1, sp8 overlay CD.

Doug,
Just an FYI.
At RTS, the 8th generation Power Edge servers were validated with Netware 5.1, sp7 overlay and Netware 6.5, sp3 overlay. You may have problems using a Netware 5.1 CD with a service pack older than sp7.

I will be trying the Server Assistant program today.  I hope it works.  The other limitation is that I have to use an older NW5.1 to be able to install NDS7.  So when I get the Server Assistant CD today I guess we will find out.  I'm all ears if you have any more ideas...

Thanks

Doug

Well,  I received a package from DELL this morning that had server assistant 4.4 in it and it requires netware 6.5 to install.  If I use the NW51SP8 overlay cd, I still can't get the SATA driver to work.  If I get SP8 installed as a standalone server with NDS8 on it, can I remove NDS8 and merge it into my existing tree then install NDS7 on it?  any help is appeciated.

Doug,
I have seen problems in the past with the SATA driver not loading. It may stem from the version of IDEATA.HAM or NBI.NLM on the Dell Server Assistant.

Try installing with the Netware 5.1, sp8 overlay CD without the DSA and see if that works. I'll watch for you to post back.

As for rolling NDS back, I do not know if that is possible. This is a question for Novell. If you have software contracts with them, you may want to give them a call. If not, you can post that question on their forums.

Doug,

What is the service tag of your server?

I have tried the NW51SP8 overlay CD and it gets hung at the AARICH.HAM driver just like in my first message.  Any ideas?

I just sent you an email. Please let me know if you did not receive it.

I received your file. Thanks.  I can now get the IDEATA.HAM to load.  The next step in the installation says "no storage device was detected on this system" when I load IDECD.CDM and IDEHD.CDM.  any ideas? Is there a different driver than IDEHD.CDM when using an SATA drive?

Thanks

I emailed you back. Just in case you didn't receive me email, please call into Dell server support, 800-822-8965. Your call should be routed to the Novell/Linux team. If it is not, please have the server technican transfer you there. I will be following up with them on this issue.

After you have talked to them, would you please email me your case number?
Thanks

Hi,

I tried to install NW5.1, Novell 6 & Novell 6.5 on my PowerEdge SC1425 ( Service Tag: 5STZL71), but fails to recognise SATA drives.

I also downloaded the 5.1 server.exe, (latest), but same error.

I tried to use storage drivers from SP8 of NW5.1, and NW6.5 - SP3, but gives XMGR Timeout error.

I cant' find anyfiles on DELL Assistant CD with Storage Drivers, all I have on CD is network drivers .

Can anyone suggest me or send me latest SATA drivers / Install procedure , as all articles on forum and other web sites say nothing for PowerEdge SC-1425 servers.

Thanks
