Poweredge hangs on shutdown/restart after windows updates

We have about 20 or so poweredge servers of different generations, and are having a problem with servers not shutting down all the way when trying to reboot from windows updates patching.  The problem has been seen across 1900's, 2900's 2800's and 1800's.  All servers are fully patched every month from microsoft and we do a firmware/driver update round every 6 months.

When the server shuts down, if it hangs, no services, rdp, or remote server management (windows ) can be used.  DRAC still works fine, and using the remote console on the DRAC or looking at the server console physically shows a gray blank screen, and nothing else.  At that point the only way to shut the server down is to do it through the DRAC, or holding the power button down.

there does't seem to be a pattern as to which server will cause the issue, so it seems completely random to us.  Every windows update cycle, we experience at least one server that exhibits this behavior.

Has anyone ever seen/solved the problem?

I am having the same problem.  I have one PowerEdge 1855 Server running Windows Server 2003.  After an Automatic Update installed a security patch and forced a reboot, it hung at the POST screen.  Couldn't enter the setup or go into utility mode.  The solution was to pull the power plugs and then plug them back in.  It booted back into Windows.  I haven't updated the BIOS yet, but it's on my to do list.  I also turned off the Auto updates, which should have been a no brainer on a server.
