R430 and SQL 2016 downgrade rights

I have been trying for days to get a straight answer from Dell and Microsoft on this.

In the past (a few months ago), I could order a new Dell PE server with SQL 2014 that included downgrade rights to SQL 2012.

When I go to order now, the option is SQL 2016, but the line item does not specify if rights to downgrade to 2014 are included.

The line item a few months back looked like this: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard,OEM, Includes 5 USER CALs, NFI, With 2012 Media, ENG

The line item now looks like this: Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard,OEM, Includes 5 Device CALs, NFI, ENGLISH

Does anyone know if the SQL 2016 line item on new PowerEdge purchases includes downgrade rights/media/keys to 2014??

Thanks.

Hello

I can see why you haven't been able to get an answer on this. We do not have internal information documenting the process to acquire the downgrade media. I have put in an information request and expect to hear back on it tomorrow. I'll update you with what I find.

Thanks

I received a response faster than expected.

No, we do not provide downgrade media or product keys for SQL 2016. If you want to use an older version you will need to obtain the media and product keys separately.

Thanks

if the customer has the media and keys for SQL2014 and install it on his server, he is protected with the SQL2016 OEM licenses?
