RAID Configuration on PERC H200 on SBS2011

Hi,

Can somebody please tell me if there is a Windows OS based management tool for Dell Perc H200 RAID controller? I have spent hours searching the web and Dell website looking for a configuration utility other than the BIOS based utility (which sucks). I want to be able to check the status of my RAID1 mirror sets without having to shutdown the server. Seems reasonable. I've always been able to do this on HP kit.

There are many mentions of Dell OpenManage, but when I downloaded and installed it tells me that it cannot be installed on a Domain Controller. Obviously nothing I can do about that on an SBS system.

Is there another Windows utility I can use?

This information should be so easy to find, yet Dell's  technical support site is poorly organised, so I hope someone out there can help.

Many thanks

Paul

Not exactly difficult to find ... you just need to know what to look for.

OpenManage Server Administrator:

ftp.dell.com/.../OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WIN-7.2.0-6945.exe

Download and run to extract, choose Custom and make sure that Storage Management is installed.  Add yourservernameoripaddress:1311 to IE's Intranet Zone.

The version supported may depend on the system you are running this on, but this latest version should work on most, if not all, that can have an H200 installed.

As indicated by theflash1932, OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA) should be the tool that you can choose to use for monitoring Dell poweredge servers.

Thanks

Is there any tools that is not OpenManage? We have an old 2008 server and is not up to date. OpenManage is looking for a windows update installed as prerequisite.

"windows update installed as prerequisite" means you have to download the update as an offline installer and install.

This is one example needed by many things

The offline package can be used in situations where the web installer cannot be used due to lack of internet connectivity.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=56116

There are no other options.

Download the OpenManage Essentials package from

http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln312494/openmanage-essentials-v2-5-features-and-enhancements-with-download?lang=en

and extract the files to a local drive.

Critical prerequisites are:
 SNMP Service
 IIS 7
 Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1

 ASP.NET 4
 Microsoft Silverlight 4.0
 Microsoft Visual Studio® Runtime 9.0

For 32 bit

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328

For 64 bit

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523

 IPMI Utility (BMU Tools)

 DRAC Tools
 PowerShell

Here is a link to the manual showing this - ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_electronics/esuprt_software/esuprt_ent_sys_mgmt/esuprt_ent_sys_mgmt_opnmng_essentials/dell-opnmang-essentials-v1.1_White%20Papers98_en-us.pdf

You will find it on page 10.

Not sure why Windows Update is an issue for you ...

You can try LSI's MegaRAID software for the controller's chipset, but no promises it will work.
