Simple way to have iDRAC System Event Log messages injected into Windows OS (2003/208) Event Log?
Is there a simple way to have the Dell System Event Log (as seen through the iDRAC) messages also be posted to the Windows Operating System Event Log? Is there a way to accomplish this without having to install a mass amount of software (such as what OpenManage requires - being a database, the BMC tools, the DRAC tools, etc.)?
All I need are hardware log messages to also show up in the OS log....
Thanks in advance!

Phillip,
There is not a way to have the hardware log included in the OS System Event Log. If you are just wanting to retrieve the Hardware log you can run a Dset report on the server and it will be included in the report. That will minimize software that is installed.
The other way would be installing Open Manage on the server.

Thanks for the response. I can retrieve the log through the DRAC utilities (racadm.exe), but that's not going to help me much with my current need. My client monitors many hundreds of (other brand) servers for hardware information by scraping the Windows OS System Event Log. If they cannot do the same with a Dell system, it would mean it could be a drastic change of internal processes and tools set in order to monitor for hardware related support events.
Installing a heavy monitoring environment such as Open Manage would be very invasive to their standard (and federally regulated appliance) OS image.
For clarification - are you saying that installing Open Manage will only provide me with the ability to see the hardware SEL log? Or are you saying that Open Manage gives me the ability to see the hardware SEL log through the Windows OS Event Log? (sounded like you were saying no, but wanted to clarify that there is no tool to integrate the hardware SEL into the OS Event Log - not through Open Manage nor any other (Dell provided) toolset)?
Thanks again!

Maybe an alternative:
I'm digging around now, but have not yet found if the BMC/iDRAC can be configured to log messages into a remote syslog server?
Here's the requirement:
My client manages *thousands* of individual servers and supporting infrastructure components world wide. Their operations center manages it all through a single pane of glass that is highly driven by Nagios system monitoring. They facilitate this by having the components (both stand alone and virtual machine OS images, as well as network, storage and other infrastructure components) transmit event messages to remote syslog servers. Nagios picks up these messages, filters out the fluff and triggers support events on issues that they need to respond to.
Thus the option for them to utilize Dell servers as an alternate solution platform for them requires that the Dell equipment also be capable of transmitting hardware related messages to a remote syslog server (either through the host operating system or directly to a remote syslog server).
Thoughts?
Thanks again,
Philip Greer
