Question

I'm getting one more devices failed to load on bootup. Using Server 2003 Enterprize SP2. The message in Device Manager says:

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:i8042prt"

Hello,   Think you got message : Event ID - 7026.The following boot-start system-start driver(s) failed to load: i8042prt   i8042prt is mouse/keyboard driver component.   Check for usb mouse and keyboard issue, try other. Try reinstalling keyboard and mouse driver. If ps2 port disponible try ps2 port and not usb. Thanks for feedback,   What kind of PowerEdge is it (model) ? what KVM / USB or PS2 ? Have your tried connecting directly mouse and keyboard not using KVM ? Other usb device connected ? Have you other same Poweredge (model) working fine in this configuration (connected on same KVM) ?   Maybe can be if KVM is connected in front usb port, if possible try back port just to check, possible register modification concerning hotplug usb fonctionnality : verify without modifying value [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters] Headless data ?   If your poweredge has Ps2 connectors and you use usb KVM, maybe disable ps2 in bios (depending model).   Don't hesitate to give Feedback   Dramba

I've drilled down to that area. There is no headless value, is that something I need to add?   We actually have 3 of them with this same message. It's a PS/2 keyboard cable with a USB cable that plugs into a digital KVM switch. Our server rack has a  16 Port Keyboard/Video/Mouse Digital Switch, 2161DS/2 PowerEdge (222-1659)   Thank you

Hi Dramba,

I've got this server connected to a digital KVM switch. I also tried deleting the drivers like the link states but I am still getting the error message in Event Viewer.

Another interresting link (this one has push very hight tests) : http://discussions.hardwarecentral.com/showthread.php?t=140641   Try update 2161DS/2 firmware if not last one.   Probability of mouse/keyboard compatibility problem shows more possible.   Do you have physical default using keyboard and mouse, or just event viewer error (working) ?   Try using PS2 Sip if you got and not USB (because using ps2 keyboard/prefers to do not change type), what about mouse (ps2 or usb) ?   you said 3 identical servers for same issue, what generation (6,7,8,9 G) ? What about other's servers, working fine ?   Rgds Dramba
