WINDOWS XP Professional 32-bit and 64-bit on Poweredge 2850?
Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a couple of second hand poweredge 2850.
Unfortunately the software I need to run works only on Windows xp Professional (and expecially well on the 64-bit version).
Does any one know if this server would support windows xp professional 32-bit or 64-bit?
Many thanks,
G

XP Pro 64-bit shouldn't be any issue, as it's really just Windows 2003 x64, so the drivers that are on the Dell site for 2003 x64 will work.
For XP 32-bit, you can try the 2003 32-bit drivers and most likely they'll work too.
However, you will have to install from the XP CDs as the Dell Server Install disk doesn't support desktop OSes. Also, if you ever have any issues with drivers or the OS, Dell Poweredge support won't touch your setup as desktop OSes aren't certified and they don't support non-supported OSes.

Virtual PC 2007 is free.
You can run 32 bit XP as a virtual machine on 64 bit Server 2003 just fine.
