Hello, i have a Dell Server PowerEdge 2950 running on Windows Server 2008 x64. Im using it as a tally server station for other pcs connected to the network, but im receiving many problems on it. My question is can i install windows 7 x64 on it? I have one 1TB hard disk on it and 16GB RAM on it. Please enlighten me someone....

Windows 7 with SP1 does indeed install to a PowerEdge 2950. You may have some issues with drivers, but nothing that isn't insurmountable. (I usually load Win7 Pro to these for burn-in testing before installing the final OS.)

I would suggest to use Win7 Pro x64, as that allows you to use more than 4GB of RAM.

Good Luck.

Putting Windows 7 on it will not mean there will not still be "many problems" on it. What kind of problems? Could be hardware issues, could be incompatibilities with 2008, 64-bit, drivers, etc.

The only real issue I have ever run into was that the video controller is not very robust. As such, games and screen savers are problematic.

If I might ask, what are the problems you are having with Server 2008?

Well with Windows 2008 server edition I was having problems with tally as a server for other pcs since after every 5-6 days I was getting corrupt data. If I put Windows 7 x64 on it I just wanna use the computer as a tally server for other computers on the network and don't need to play games or use high end graphics. Is that ok?

Odd, you could try it under Win7 as the Tally ERP site shows it as being compatible, but I would tend to trust Server 2008 more than Win7 to run well long-term without a reboot.

(I know Win7 SHOULD be fine, but I have seen too many cases where "Shut Up and Reboot" was needed to fix odd networking issues...)

What flavor of Server 2008 are you running? (Original or R2? Data Center, Standard, Etc.)

What about the SAS Driver? At the time of installation don't you have recognize the driver?

There isn't a SAS driver its a PERC driver.

Rename the exe file to .zip and extract the F6 drivers.

The drives do not work unless you have Pre formatted a container in the PERC bios.
