Windows Home Server 2011 64 Bit - Work on a Dell T110?

I have a two year old Dell T110 Server with Intel Xeon X3430 processor running Windows Home Server software.  It has been running great since February 2010.  My computers are Windows XP and are 9, 8 and 8 years old.  I need to get new ones.  The new ones I have access to have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit operating systems.  Will these computers communicate (Backup and Storage) with the T110 running the Windows Home Server software? (I understand that the version of Windows Home Server was built from Windows Server 2003.)  Thank you!

Yes, as long as you've kept home server up to date.

Thank you.  After doing some additional research I find, I think, that PP3 added code to WHS v1 that allows Windows 7, 64-bit, to be connected, so, as you stated the WHS program must be up to date with  PP3.  It was also highly recommended that the Windows 7 install be "Clean", that no other program that could block the connection (antivirus) be turned on and that the date and time on the client matches the date and time on the server.

I have home server on a SC440 since it was released. It backs up XP, win7 32 and 64bit and win7 starter. When you get the new machines give them different names. This will preserve the existing backups of the xp machine to allow file retrieval by mounting backups.

That makes good sense too.  Thanks for the reminder.

My first backup was after the install then my apps unitll i was happy with my system. I then ran a manual backup and called it first anf locked it in the console, so i have my built sys i can restore to. Also, there are isssues if you have onboard realtek nics. There are wikis on the home server forums that adress this.

I also have a PowerEdge SC440.  I am considering installing WHS 2011 on it.  Where can I find appropriate drivers for the SC440?

You will need to use the 2008 R2 drivers.  Go to http://support.dell.com and enter your Service Tag or select your model; change the OS dropdown to 2008 R2.
