Official validations have not yet been made for older systems, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't run either just fine.

No, you need to give it some time. Dell could not test to validate until the OS was released, so watch for validation information and drivers over the next several weeks or even months.

For the newer 13G servers, Dell released an updated OS Driver Pack two weeks ago! I'm surprised it takes so long for the somewhat older systems.

Dell no longer gets the RTM bits of the OS before its general release, so they see it when everyone else does, and while there is some pre-cooperation with MS on drivers/hardware, etc., it takes some time to test and validate against the RTM code. It would be crazy to want them to rush that.

How do I extract the drivers in a way that windows 2016 will find them during the install?

To answer your question: You need the "hard drive" (or "external") version of the driver in question, and you must run it on a Windows machine to extract the files. Those files can then be put on a flash drive (I usually put them in a \drivers folder on my installation USB) or CD/DVD.

The message above, however, is more than likely indicative of bad installation media - bad ISO download, bad burn to media, bad media, etc.

Unfortunately the install media may not be bad.  I have two R710s; Hardware Version I and Version ||.  2016 loaded perfectly on the Version I but when using the same media on a VII board it failed with the image above.

Tried different drives.  Tried using the UEFI.  Nothing worked.  Ended up installing 2012 R2 which installed without issue with the same drive configuration.

If it is simply the not able to find the driver how do I find the driver I need?

I first updated the bios to the latest and greatest, then exported all contents from the driver pack you referenced to my windows  server 2016 and I'm off to the races.

Also is worthwhile to note, I did get a "deal" on my R710 as it was a google search appliance at some point.  When I updated the bios, it removed the google installed bios...

Last question - does dell have a "Windows Update" equivalent?   I see lots of newer dell software I could apply to my server - but seems like it's a convoluted process...
