Just a slight update with regard to creating the Service Request in step 3. As of December 8, 2012, Service Requests need to be submitted via https://support.emc.com/. Powerlink will provide a redirect link when following the above instructions. Thanks again for the great post.
Regards,
Chris

I believe that there is only 1 way to aquire powerpath/ve licenses. Has EMC moved towards served or unserved licences?

Hi Bob,
Is the default served or unserved in Channe Express/Direct Express? What is the preferred method by EMC?

Hi Raph - with the release of PPVE 5.8 we now support both served and unserved temporary licenses.
Do this answer your question?

Hi Raph - we removed the choice of served vs. unserved from CxP/DxP - it is now a decision that is made at time of license activation, not ordering.
EMC recommends served licenses for environments that change frequently or have more that 5 hosts to manage. We recently introduced a new license server packaging in a virtual appliance that reduces the number of steps needed to deploy a license server.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
