QLogic HBA Timer settings in SanSurfer. Select each HBA port, and on the right side select the Parameters Tab, select the down arrow to bring up Advanced Parameters and change the following settings:

Execution Throttle                          : from 16 to 256  (Set to 65,535 for 8GBs and over)

Port Down Retry Count                   : from 16 to 45

Link Down Timeout (seconds)          : from 8 to 45

LUNs Per Target                             :from 128 to  256

if you are using EMC "approved" Qlogic drivers, those parameters should be already set. Make sure to use drivers from EMC OEM section on their website

just asking: why would you want the execution throttle to be as high as 64k? You'll be overloading the storage ports if you do this. On a VNX each port can only have 1600 outstanding IOs at any time, so if an HBA is allowed to have 64k IOs open, you're bound to get yourself in troube.

Hi,

Execution Throttle                          : from 16 to 256  (Set to 65,535 for 4GBs and over)

Port Down Retry Count                   : from 16 to 45

Link Down Timeout (seconds)          : from 8 to 45

LUNs Per Target                             :from 128 to  256 These are the settings recommended by EMC for PPME migration from CX-3 TO VNX ..  Thanks

I believe this is set this way, because it is the Microsoft Storport driver that controls the throttling of I/O. We set the HBA driver to the max, and the MS driver is supposed to throttle as necessary when queued.
